Latest news surrounding Liverpool FC

Torres
When Torres signed for Liverpool, many people said he would be yet another Fernando to embrace the PL... Well, Fernando Torres proved everyone wrong. He scored a staggering 33 goals on his debut season for Liverpool and went on to become the fastest ever foreign player to score 50 goals for the club. The gone season has unfortunately been one where Torres has constantly been plagued by injuries. If it wasn't his ankle it was his knee. It was a pity because whenever he was present on the pitch he made no mistake to score. He scored around 21 goals in a season where he saw the hospital bed more than the pitch. He's brilliant, isn't he?

Everyone knows that the gone season has been disastrous for Liverpool FC. Financial issues and backroom unrest meant the club face a tough time. And prized assets such as Torres and Gerrard have constantly been linked with moves away from the club. While Gerrard has affirmed that he will be only concentrating on the World Cup and not his Liverpool career for now, Torres has re-iterated his desire to continue playing for the club. It's a definite boost for all Liverpool fans. Torres's agent, Jose Antonio Peton confirmed:

"For the moment, I can assure fans that Fernando will continue at Liverpool next season. Everything is down to Liverpool's attitude but, for the time being, Fernando is happy at the club and has a good contract.

"Liverpool have not spoken to us about his future, so he is just concentrating on playing at the World Cup."

Reina who is together with Torres at Spain's pre-World Cup training camp had to say: "I am calm about Fernando. I spoke to him about his future and he has told me that he intends to continue with us (Liverpool)."

"Fernando suffered so many blows last season, but he is a professional and has always wanted to do well for us. That is what he remains -- committed to this club."

Aurelio
Elsewhere, it is being reported that Liverpool's Brazilian defender, Fabio Aurelio, will leave the club this summer after having rejected a pay-as-you-play deal. Aurelio who is out of contract next month has been overwhelmed by injuries preventing him from being part of the line-up practically all season long.

Benitez said: "Fabio's contract is nearly finished and he is going to leave us. We had been trying to work something out with regards an extension but it was a pity that we couldn't."

Really, it would be a pity to see this man leave. In my opinion, he was way better than Insua, but let's not forget that the latter is still very young and can turn out to be the man for us.

The Club

The ex Liverpool owner, David Moores says he regrets having sold the club to Americans Hicks and Gillett. He has called for the American pair to assume their responsibilities in Liverpool's current financial breakdown and sell the club.

In a letter to The Times, Moores insists he sold Liverpool to the current American owners in good faith, after the men gave assurances that Liverpool will be able to cope better financially. Nonetheless, he accepts "honest mistakes" were made although acting "in the best interests of the club." David Moores, who is a lifelong Liverpool fan admits he "hugely regrets selling the club" to the pair.

The letter sent by Moores mentioned that the offer "was laid out in unambiguous terms ... the document pledged there would be no debt placed upon the club, and significant funds would be made available for investment in the squad and the new stadium".

He added: "I call upon them to stand back, accept their role in the club's current demise, and stand aside with dignity."

Things starting to look good for Liverpool FC...

Hello dear reds from all around the world. I apologise for not having posted anything since quite some time. My time schedule wasn't permitting me to have a few minutes so I could share my views with you. Well, what do you all think about the Liverpool performance against Bolton? One more time we conceded a goal through a corner and that free kick could have gone in if it had not been for a bright Pepe Reina. No need to tell you who gave this free kick away....you've well guessed....it was Lucas! Frankly speaking, I find the man too weak to play in the Liverpool midfield. Actually, he's too weak to play anywhere on the pitch for Liverpool.

Thankfully, we did the most important thing vs Bolton. A thunderbolt from Steven Gerrard confirmed the win for Liverpool after a superb Johnson goal in the first half and a cool finish from Fernando Torres minutes after Bolton's man was red carded. Liverpool's duo again proved that they have what it takes to transform matches. I was really impressed by Glen Johnson who kept his stunning form. The ease with which he beats defenders and delivers those crosses are just what Liverpool have lacked since a long time. Johnson's ability to shoot as well makes him one of the best attacking RBs in the Premier League. It's no coincidence that he was named the best RB in the PL last season.

Moreover, Sotirios Kyrgiakos put in a fine performance. I was pretty impressed with the man since it was his debut in the Premier League. He seemed pretty cool on the ball. He's a bit slow but you need to have a look at his age. He looked good in the air and came close to scoring a goal against Bolton. So, for the price Liverpool have paid for him, I find the man a decent buy. More of his performances will surely let us have a clearer idea about the type of player he is.

Elsewhere, Gerrard scored twice yesterday for England as they cruised to a 5-1 win. This is a good sign, which means that the man is getting back to his top form. And it is always a pride to see a Liverpool player score when he is on International duty. Next match will see Liverpool welcome Burnley at Anfield on Saturday. The only setback is that Mascherano is still due to return to Melwood and he will be back only on Friday afternoon. Hence, he might not feature in the Burnley match. Good news is that Fabio Aurelio is back and fit for action. He can feature in Liverpool's midfield. I believe that he will be able to put a better performance than Lucas in this role. Aurelio is a key man for Liverpool, especially in free kicks and also with his experience and maturity.

Our man, Fernando Torres is featuring on the front cover of the PES 2010 game. He looks good alongside Messi on the cover. The Red shirt and the Liverpool badge makes me proud. He had to be there because at this moment in time, Torres is probably the best striker in the world. So, it makes sense to see him there. Well, let's sit back and wait for the Burnley match. I'm dying to see the redmen in action once again. I must say I don't feel good when Liverpool do not play on a particular week! Let's get behind the team for a great performance and await for a sensational Liverpool FC win.

Fernando Torres- the kid with an eye for the goal

It has been a really long time since Liverpool have bought a striker as prolific as Fernando Torres. During his very first season, Fernando Torres scored 33 goals in all competition. He found the net 24 times in the Premier League on his debut season, a feat that saw him overtake Ruud Van Nistelrooy to become the most prolific foreign striker in England. All the Liverpool supporters have been so proud of El-Nino, including myself.

Numerous have been the times when i would be seen jumping and celebrating after Fernando Torres has scored. His presence on the spearhead of Liverpool's attack alongside teammate, Keane, makes watching them play all the more jubilating. Everytime Torres touches the ball inside the penalty area, you would feel he can score at any moment. Fernando Torres can beat defenders with his pace and his ability to find the net while targeting the most acute corners of the woodwork is just mind blowing.

Only a season at Anfield and Torres is already an idol. The song: "We bought the lad from sunny spain, he gets the ball he scores again" says it all. Anfield would erupt at times on the tune of this song to encourage Torres or after he has just found the net. Liverpool have a new legendary number 9 after the shirt was available due to Fowler's departure.

Before Torres signed for Liverpool he had already spent around 12 years at Atletico Madrid. This states that since his boyhood, Torres played at Atletico. The blow to the fans can be felt when Torres decided to move to Liverpool. He went on to become Atletico’s youngest ever captain at the age of 19 before bagging 21 goals in the 2003-04 season. His first senior International game saw him make the debut against Portugal in 2003. His first ever International goal at senior level came against Italy. He then went on to find the net three times during the World Cup in Germany.

As the song mentions: “His armband said he was a red…”, it was clear that Torres had his heart set on Merseyside. After a couple of months of speculation, Torres was finally signed from Atletico for 20 million pounds. He made his debut for Liverpool against Aston Villa on August 11, 2007. The following week saw him score his first goal in the PL for Liverpool after he made a great run past Chelsea’s defender to slot the ball comfortably in the far corner of the net to set Anfield ablaze. His scoring form kept on rising as he scored successive hat tricks at home versus Middlesbrough and West Ham.

Euro 2008 saw Torres score the only goal as Spain turned out to be winners of the tournament. It was the icing on the cake to seal a glorious season for Fernando Torres. The start of the 2008-09 season has already been fruitful for Torres, having already bagged 5 goals in 7 outings. He scored two successive doubles, notably against Everton and Manchester City. I feel the best is yet to come from Torres. El-Nino will not cease to amaze us all.

Manchester City 2-3 Liverpool, a sweet double by Torres and a wonderful late strike by Dirk Kuyt gives Liverpool the winner

Manchester City v Liverpool has undoubtedly been one of the most breathtaking matches since the start of the season. Liverpool overcame a 2 goals deficit to win the match 3-2 after an injury time strike by Dirk Kuyt. This proved once again Liverpool's intent for a serious challenge in the EPL. Rewind a year back and you would have seen Liverpool losing such matches. And what a time for Dirk Kuyt to open his scoring account in the EPL. It was the first time since November that Kuyt scored in the PL and it gave Liverpool the winner.

Fernando Torres was once more outstanding, scoring a double to give Liverpool the equalizer. He scored Liverpool's 1000th goal and at the same time became the most prolific foreign striker ever to wear the red shirt. As much as the win was sweet, every Liverpool supporter would not forget the injury of Martin Skrtel. I was really sad to see the lad taken out of the pitch. Clearly he was in agony. Reports later confirmed that he had damaged his cruciate ligaments, which could see him out of action for more than 8 weeks.

Albert Riera's impressive form was striking throughout the whole match. It seemed like he is starting to gel well with the whole squad. The training sessions are working well for him as he gave Zabaletta a tough time on the left flank. Everytime he got the ball, he got the better of him and could find space and make some dangerous crosses. Give him a couple more months and he will be the key to most of our wins. He gives Liverpool's game a new dimension and dominates the left flank remarkably well, feeding the ball to the strikers when they need it.

Both goals conceded by Liverpool were due to defensive mistakes. But on the whole, Liverpool played a great game and came out with 3 points. 7 matches played and 17 points in the bag, Liverpool stand second, after Chelsea in the table. Now, Liverpool have to score as much goals as possible to close the gap in goal difference with Chelsea. Liverpool players will take their international break with smiles on their faces. Next up is Wigan Athletic at Anfield Road.

Everton 0-2 Liverpool, a maginificent Fernando Torres double ensures the win for Liverpool

Fernando Torres sealed the win for Liverpool in this Merseyside derby as he scored twice to place Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table. Liverpool played well and controlled most of the game. Once again Rafael Benitez got the better of David Moyes as he masterminded a breathtaking Liverpool victory. 5 matches already played in the PL now, Liverpool are really starting to look strong. The football looks more fluid and the new boy, Riera, is starting to gel well with the entire team. After a lack of form in the recent matches, Torres has showed to all doubters that he's there to hit the back of the net.

I am very happy with the current display on the pitch by the redmen. Crucial as this match has been, the victory tastes sweet. It is these types of matches that we have to keep on winning. This victory certainly underlines Liverpool's serious bid for the title. We looked strong, composed and classy. Even without Masch around, we managed to get the ball as soon as Everton tried to build. More encouraging was the fact that we were being able to create space. Gerrard was again outstanding, throwing passes, defending at times and shooting when he got the opportunity.

In all, this had been a great day for all LFC supporters around the world. Another 3 points in the bag, we will be heading full of confidence to our next match against PSV Eindhoven at Anfield on Wednesday night. Yet another win in the Champions League would see Liverpool with 6 points and certainly with more things to gain than to lose. So lads, let me remind you again: the full time score at Goodison Park here, it's Everton 0-2 Liverpool. Let's keep them wins coming....

Liverpool 2-1 Crewe Alexandra- the ticket to 4th round

The Carling Cup is vital to blood youngsters. Such has been the case with Rafael Benitez as a host of youngsters made the starting line up for this crucial match. Daniel Agger was handed his debut for the reds and reserve goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri was also given first team action. Daniel Agger's free kick gave Liverpool the lead on the 15 minutes mark. It was a low drive that hit the back of the net past keeper Steve Collis. The equaliser came 10 minutes later from O'Connor who made no mistake to score from close range. The lead was restored on the 58th minute after a brilliant display by Pennant on the flank who served Lucas well to beat Crewe keeper Collis with a header. Later on Torres was introduced, and his lack of form was again clear. He failed to seal the game and score the third Liverpool goal by blasting the shot straight at the keeper.

The win seemed to be a hard fought one for Liverpool. The full time score read in favour of the reds but Liverpool need more accuracy to kill off such games. Even Benitez admitted on Setanta Sports News: "As always in these kinds of games, if you don't score the third goal and finish the game, then things can get a bit nervous". Round 3 is now clear for the reds. Next up is Everton at Goodison Park.
